5 on Friday

Thanksgiving Week! I can't believe it's already here... We are celebrating the first of two Thanksgivings tomorrow and I'm excited to spend time with family and eat plenty of good food. I'm making my first pecan pie following Martha's recipe, so fingers crossed for a good result.

Santa pajamas and all things Christmas... This year has been extra fun so far in terms of the Christmas season (even though it hasn't really started yet). Hayden is so much more aware and excited about Santa, Christmas trees, and Christmas lights. He has several pairs of Santa/Christmas pajamas and it's bee a struggle to get him out of them into normal clothes this week. Since it's been kind of dreary and rainy here, I haven't been pushing him too hard- I wish I could wear pajamas all day long too, kid!
Your weekly renovation update: We are somewhat halted in our master bathroom progress because the shower head we ordered won't be here for another 2 weeks. Our contractors can't start tiling or anything else until it gets here... so we wait. However, they have started working on our other project, the nursery. We are adding French doors and a window to my old office so that it's a light, bright space for Baby Girl. The french doors were framed out and the interior window hole was cut yesterday and the space is already looking so different.

Nursery I have everything ordered for the nursery (crib sheets, crib skirt, rocker, a new dresser, light fixture, ottoman, etc.) so that it will be ready to go when this room is complete. I'm really, really excited to design this space and of course I have my crafty momma and sister to help me out. We are planning some fun window treatments and a very pretty mobile for the space.  Here are a few of the pretty things headed our way:

Advice please! We have had Hayden in his own bed for a couple months now and it is going pretty well, but not great. With all our moving around for naps (due to the renovations) he's been sleeping so well at my parents and parents-in-law - like 3+ hour naps. At our house, not so great. I'm wondering if it's because he's back in a crib at those places? Do you think bed rails would help? It's not just nap time that's a struggle. He's waking up way more often at night than he used to and we go in just to reposition him or cover him up. He still sleeps his usual 11-12 hours at night. Anyway, I don't know.... The idea of being up with both kids in the middle of the night is daunting so we'd love to figure this one out before too long!

Christmas List 2014

Christmas List 2014
With Thanksgiving next week, Christmas is just around the corner! After finishing my shopping for everyone else, I decided to make a little list of things that I wouldn't mind receiving (you know to help out certain gift givers such as my husband ;)
1. Yosi Samra ballet shoes: Love flats these days and for the foreseeable future as a momma of 2. These ones are supposed to be super comfortable and more supportive than my standard Target flats...
2. Rifle recipe box: I've loved this recipe box always and forever from Paper-Source. I think it would be the cutest sitting on my counter!
3. Simplified Planner:  This planner speaks to my love for organization and list-making. I know this would be the perfect planner for starting the new year.
4.  Taylor Swift 1989 (Deluxe Edition) Target Exclusive: Oh Taylor... Hayden and I love to dance to Shake it Off and any music that I can play in the car that's not Old MacDonald or Mickey's greatest hits is a win.
5.  Tory Burch sunglasses: Love these sunglasses. If I have cute shoes and sunglasses, maybe no one will notice when I wear the same yoga pants 2 days in a row come January?
6. Solly Baby Wrap: This is something I really want for baby girl. I had the Moby Wrap with Hayden and I wore it all the time but I like the lightweight fabric and the cute pattern (grey and white stripes) of this one.
7.  New Balance 996 Runner Trainers in Grey and Gold: We take at least 1 walk almost every day and my walking shoes are getting a little worn down. Plus grey and gold. Love!
8.  J Crew polka dot sleepwear: I love the idea of matching sleepwear, especially in the hospital after baby girl is born.

Successful Trip to NY: I had such a great time on my trip to New York last weekend. I got tons of quality time with my BFF, picked out bridesmaid dresses for her wedding, went to a fun party, and got to do some shopping. The weather was nice and fall-y compared to our 80 degree weekend back here in CA. The not so fun part was the travel back and forth across the county at 30 weeks pregnant. I survived but I feel like it's going to take me another week to recover!
Bathroom Remodel Progress: Our bathroom started right on time early Monday morning and I'm so excited for all the progress made this week. The whole thing was gutted, the electrical and plumbing moved, and the building of new features has commenced. I love our contractor and every time they finish a day's work I am thankful x10 that Nick and I are not attempting to DIY this one.  #waywayoutofourleague
Napping on the go: Because this was demo week and everything was super noisy at our house, Hayden and I have been traveling around to both sets of grandparents' houses so he can get a nap in. Baby Hayden could have slept through the noise (he did when we redid our floors downstairs) but Toddler Hayden is having none of it. Luckily he's been a napping champ, sleeping 3+ hours when we get to a quiet space, giving Momma lots of time to work during the day.  Thank goodness for my adaptable little guy!
All that Christmas shopping: Since I finished my Christmas shopping, things have been arriving the last week or so. I cleared some space on a shelf in our closet but we are already running out of room. I can't wait to get our tree and start wrapping all these fun goodies!
Potty-training, round 2: We are committed to another try at potty training this weekend. We've read the books, and prepped as much as possible and hoping that it sticks this time. It's our last shot before Baby Sister comes since we don't want to pile too many changes on Hayden at one time. Wish us luck!

Last Tuesday we took Hayden to Disneyland for a quick trip. The trip was kind of a last minute decision. Nick had to be down in LA for a meeting on Wednesday/Thursday and plane tickets were cheap. Even though we are planning a bigger trip to Disney next summer with our extended family, we decided that one last super-special vacation as a family of 3 would be fun.
Before we booked everything, I looked up the height requirements for the rides to make sure that there would be plenty for us to do. Luckily, Hayden could go on pretty much all the rides, except for the roller coasters, which was fine since pregnant ladies are banned from those as well.
We got up early (thank you Daylight Savings Time) and headed to Downtown Disney outside the park before it opened. We had a good breakfast, Hayden got a Jamba Juice, and we got much-needed coffee for the day ahead.
Once inside the park we went to the Teacups first because there was no line. Hayden loved it!
We skipped around to different rides, picking ones with short wait times. Our favorite was the Peter Pan ride which none of us had been on before. We also got to meet a few of his favorites- Mickey, Daisy, and Goofy. He was impressed.

After a trip on Pirates of the Caribbean, we took Hayden (and ourselves) back to the hotel for a late lunch and afternoon nap.
We woke Hayden up around 5:00 and headed back to the park for a few more rides.
He really love the carousel and rode it with both Mommy and Daddy.
We let him pick out a Mickey to take home. Mickey has been sleeping with him each night and is already very well-loved in our house.
On Wednesday morning Hayden and I got up early for our flight back up to the Bay Area. The 50 minute flight was super easy and I wish all our flights could be that short!

5 on Friday

1. Christmas shopping....done! I know, I'm as amazed as you are but I think it has to do with the pregnancy/my nesting urges. It's making me very decisive. I made a list and spent a couple hours online last weekend and got everything ordered (except for Hayden's Santa gift). This is so rare because I usually love to go out shopping at the stores and never start before Thanksgiving... but Baby Girl is due just 2 weeks after Christmas so it had to be done! Don't worry- that's the only pre-Thanksgiving Christmasness I'll be doing....
2. Speaking of decisiveness: I picked out tile for our bathroom, carpet for our bedroom, and a whole bunch of other home-related items for our renovation. Let the games begin- everything starts on Monday! Goodbye 80's bathroom....
3. Up-up-and-away: My final pre-baby flight is happening today! I'm heading to New York for a girls weekend with my BFF. So excited!
4. 30 weeks! For some reason this number feels big just like it did last time... It feels like we are in the final push (we are) and this baby will be here before we know it (she will). I'm so excited to meet our sweet little girl and see Hayden interact with his sister. And also not to be pregnant anymore #goodbyeheartburnhellofeet
5. Favorite purchase of the moment: City Select Baby Jogger. I know, I know- something only a mom could get excited about but I'm obsessed with our new stroller. Even though Baby Girl won't be here for a couple of months, we went ahead and purchased our double stroller because Buy Buy Baby was having a deal where you got the second seat for free (usually $175) so it was the right time. We took this one with us to Disneyland this week and it was the easiest stroller to take traveling. I love it!

halloween recap

We had a wonderful Halloween over here and Hayden loved every minute of it. We hosted a little Halloween party for some of his playgroup friends and close family and then went trick-or-treating for the first time. Because of the stomach flu, we had to run all our pre-party errands yesterday morning but it seemed that every store we visited was giving away some little treat or stickers for Halloween. Here's a few pictures from our evening...
