what I love about sundays...

We had a really busy weekend so it was nice to have Sunday afternoon for a little dedicated family time, just us 3.5. I've been making a new kind of soup each Sunday in the crockpot and I love this little tradition. It's so nice to have the cozy soup smell filling our house, the windows open, and some music playing on the speakers.
Hayden loves to help in the kitchen and he's great at following directions and watching the whole process. Soup is especially fun for him to make, because it involves a lot of stirring- his speciality! I love that my sweet boy is so happy chatting and cooking with me and I hope this continues for years to come.
If you're interested, here are the soup recipes that we've made and enjoyed so far this month:

4 on Friday

1. #targetdoesitagain Have you seen there new fall line with neutrals and golds? Love love love it! I may have picked up a couple of gold pillows for our couch...

2. Big transition: I ordered Hayden's mattress and bed this week and they will both be arriving October 1st. We have nowhere to store them, so we will be starting him in his new bed that night. We're hoping for a smooth transition but expecting that it could be a little challenging as well! (I ordered these cute Land of Nod Sheets for him as well)
 3. BFF weekend! My best friend is flying out from NYC this weekend and I'm so excited to catch up and eat a lot and celebrate her birthday! (Side note, we need to take more pictures this time around since this is the only one I have...)

4.  Fall is here! It's been slightly cooler this week than usual and it actually rained here in California yesterday. We're hoping the "Fall" weather hangs on and we don't have another typical California Summer that lasts until Thanksgiving...

This is my mantra for fall. I (along with everyone else I'm sure) can't get enough of pumpkins. I'm obsessed with my pumpkin candles that I light every single day.
Also, this pumpkin yogurt from Target has been steadily stocked in our fridge. (On sale this week too!)
Today, Hayden and I have big plans to make some pumpkin bread as well.
After reading somewhere about how many sketchy ingredients go into Pumpkin Spice Lattes (sorry :/) I found a "clean" alternative that I e-mailed to my dad. He bought some decaf beans and made me my very own PSL from real ingredients - so good! Now if only he were able to make me one each day....
I love this season so so much!

Baby Girl Nursery Inspiration

I have been dreaming about baby girl nurseries for years so once we found out our baby was a girl, I was able to pull together my favorite look surprisingly easily. I'm much more decisive than I was with Hayden's nursery! Anyway, we can't start on anything yet because we *may* be adding on to our house to create a larger separate space for Baby Girl. We are a long way off from for sure- we have to have a structural engineer, building plans, and permits and we are really just at the beginning of the process so it's a big maybe at this point. Anyway, we are hoping that it will all go smoothly and we'll be able to give Baby Girl her own little nursery. In the meantime, I've been gathering all of my favorite inspiration from around the web so that I can put my plan into action when the time is right! Here's an inspiration board that I created:
Baby Girl Nursey

The whole nursery will be planned around that Rifle Paper print from the Paper Source. I love the colors- coral, peach, gold, a little mint green, etc. Those will be the colors in the room. I think I will paint the walls a really pale peach (this color is called Peach Champagne by Valspar). We are potentially adding wood floors of some type to the room, color undecided.
We will be using the crib we bought for Hayden (from Pottery Barn Kids) but of course, Baby Girl gets her own bedding. I love this Land of Nod Crib skirt, and this coral colored crib sheet. With Hayden, we ended up buying 3 crib sheets with different colors/patterns and it worked well for diaper leaks, and laundry days so we'll probably do the same again!
Our rocker from Hayden's room wasn't the most comfortable and it made a loud creaking noise so we donated it but are looking for something new and neutral for the room. Knowing how much we rocked Hayden, I'm willing to spend a little extra money on something cute and comfy since we will be spending lots of time in there! I love the leather pouf above- an ottoman was also a daily-used item in Hayden's nursery.
Hayden currently has 2 dressers in his room, with one acting as a changing table. Since we hope to have him potty-trained (or at least on his way toward it!) by the time little sister arrives, we'll be moving 1 dresser and the changing station into her room. The one pictured above is a little more feminine so I think it will work well in her room.
The rug is actually one we already own. I love it so much! It currently lives downstairs in our entry hall. West Elm isn't selling the smaller size anymore so we may move it upstairs and get a different rug for downstairs.
Other decor items: chandelier, pillow, and art prints (1 and 2). I can't wait to get started on this pretty space but since we are a long way from the decorating stage, my online window shopping will have to do for now!

Five on Friday

1. Date Night!! Nick has been on a business trip most of the week and I've been flying solo with Hayden. Any phone conversations/FaceTime calls while Nick was gone were dominated by H, so I'm looking forward to some alone time! My in laws are babysitting tonight so we can have a night out (thank you, thank you!!).
2. Pregnancy Insomnia- it's the real deal. I've been waking up 3 - 4 nights a week anywhere from 1  to 4 am and not able to go back to sleep for a few hours. This happened last time, so I'm not surprised. I was hoping that more exercise and being busy with Hayden might tire me out enough to sleep through the night, but no. At least I can get a lot of work done in the middle of the night and have more time during the day to hang out with my favorite 2 year old.
3. Our Family. Hayden has been into randomly naming our family members. Last night before bed, he said, "Mommy, Daddy, and Hayden." I asked him who else was in our family and he said, "Sister." Then he said, "Who else?... Spider."
4. Shoes... Since I hold off on buying clothes when I'm pregnant for the most part, I've taken a great interest in accessories- especially shoes! I love wearing flats and found 2 cute new pairs that look to be a little higher quality than my usual Target $10 variety...

5. Fall TV... I feel like I can count on one hand the number of time we watched an actual show on TV this summer (well, besides The Bachelorette...) and I'm excited for some of my favorite shows to start back up: Parenthood, Homeland, and New Girl! Something else to occupy my mind at 3 am....

Having a 2 year old is so much fun (and drama!) Hayden is always chatting and  he cracks us up on the daily.  I want to remember all the cute little things he says before he grows out of this stage. Already, he's speaking in longer sentences and sounding less and less like a baby. Here are some of my current favorites:
I was picking up dinner and I told the hostess, "I'm picking up an order for Jessica." Hayden quickly chimed in with "Reisfelt".
At Home Goods, the cashier reached over with her scanner to scan something in my cart; when she finished, Hayden told her "Good Job!"
He tells us all the time, "That is correct!" with lots of enthusiasm.
Whenever he gets upset or hurt lately, he says "I bumped my ______. Mommy kiss it."  Things I have kissed so far" all his fingers, his hands, feet, belly, head, knee, hair, shirt, and elephant...
Recently on his changing table he was kicking his feet and kept kicking me in the stomach. I told him he had to be gentle because Sister was in Mommy's tummy and we didn't want to hurt her or Mommy. Now he tells me all the time, "Be nice to Sister."
When he cuddles on my shoulder while I'm hold him, he pats my back and says, "Ohhhh Mommy."
When he wants to be picked up/held: "Mommy, I hold you? I carry you?"
Counting... He loves to count and can count to 20 but consistently leaves out 15 and 16. Now he pauses after 14 and says, "What's next?" waits for us to say 15, 16 and then goes on to 17. He also shouts Hurray!  when he gets to 20.
We found little pumpkins at Trader Joe's this week and bought a few. I asked him if he knew what they were and he guessed apples. When I told him they were pumpkins, he started calling them "Pumpkin Breads".
These last pictures are of Elephant. Apparently it was time for Elephant to go to sleep so he pulled out a dish towel and covered him up on the kitchen floor. Then he laid down on top of his and made little snoring noises.

maternity clothes, round two

Since I'm having babe #2 on the opposite side of the calendar as Hayden, dressing the bump has been a little different this time around. Last time I got away with a lot of dresses to carry me through the summer. Dresses and toddlers don't mix well. Since a lot my tops are already of the loose, flowy variety, I've been concentrating on adding a few more shorts/pants into the rotation this time around. I'm hoping my 4 pairs of pants, 3 pairs of shorts, and loose tops can carry me through! Here are some of my current favorites for maternity wear:

5 on Friday

1.  A little Fall Decor  Last weekend I got the urge to switch up our downstairs a little for Fall. Even if it still feels like summer here :/
2.  Speaking of hot weather... Both babies wanted some frozen yogurt yesterday afternoon when it was 100 degrees out. I had to agree with them...
3. Names, names, names I've been searching through tons of baby names to find the perfect one for Baby Girl. I want something that is feminine, maybe a little traditional, not too popular or trendy, and that goes well with Hayden. Nick is less enthusiastic about the task, but we still have plenty of time to figure it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
4. Real Simple Recipes Since food aversions are finally gone (for now!) I've been making it my mission to cook almost every night. I planned out our whole monthly menu and used a lot of new recipes from the latest issue of Real Simple magazine. I love their meal ideas and has been my go to website for meals for a long time. So many of the meals are healthy, a little bit unique, and take 20 minutes or less! Some of the crowd pleasers from the last two weeks were Chicken and Bulgur (I used barley) and Creamy Orecchiette with Chili Oil. Hayden loves to sit on the counter and help cook so it's a good late afternoon activity for us to mitigate witching hour!
5. Big boy bed and tiny girl cribs: We won't be buying a second crib for Little Miss (though if I had to, I'd choose this one). We'll be transitioning Hayden out of the crib and into a twin bed. We wanted to try and do in the next month of two so he gets used to the idea and doesn't feel like his sister stole his crib. I'm having a lot of fun online window shopping for beds and bedding and thinking about a big boy room.

baby girl style

I'm not going to lie... since I found out Little Reisfelt #2 is a girl, I've been shopping a bit ;) I love dressing Hayden and always have fun shopping for him, but my goodness, there are so many more options for little girls! My mom and sister have been contributing to Baby Girl's wardrobe as well. Since our daughter will be born in January, I've been buying mostly cozy clothes, though a few summer things on clearance in larger sizes. California winters are often pretty mild so we don't need a ton of really warm jackets or clothes.
Here's a few things we've bought so far...
I was sorting through all of Hayden's old clothes yesterday and there was a good amount of unisex clothing that will work for baby girl (leggings, onesies, etc.).
Also, there's this pinterest board...

it's a....

5 on Friday

Long time, no see! August was absolutely insane over here - I won't bore you with all the details but we finally feel like things are sliding back to normal over here and it feels good.
We have a secret.... we know what baby #2 is and Hayden is excited to share. I promise it will be soon! :)
First Day of PreSchool: Hayden attended a summer program at his preschool over the summer but now we are in the real deal. School started yesterday. He's in the 2-year-old class and it's a 5 hour day, 2 times a week. I haven't been away that long from him during a weekday since April and it feels a little sad/strange. I know I'll get used to it and will appreciate a little extra uninterrupted work time but still... Anyway, he had a really great first day and came home so happy (and worn out!)

Pregnancy: We are currently at 21 weeks and this pregnancy is flying by! I finally have some energy back and no more morning sickness. I'm eating healthier and working out again (after a month long hiatus- I told you August was crazy!) so everything feels good. My only complaint is insomnia, I'm usually up from 3:30 on 4 -5 nights a week but I've started working in the middle of the night so that I can do less during the day, so it works for now...
Fall: Bring it on! I'm excited for my favorite season and living it up with Hayden. 2 is such a fun age and I know he'll appreciate the pumpkin patch and apple picking and all the other fun activities so much more this year. Now if only these 90-degree days would quit!
Soup:  This pregnancy I've been craving a lot of soup. We've been without a crockpot for a couple of years and I decided to get a new one and instate Soup Sundays. I'm planning on making a big batch of soup each week and hoping to try out a lot of different recipes this fall. First up, minestrone!
