A Drive-In Movie Third Birthday Party

We celebrated Hayden's third birthday last month with a drive-in movie party. I actually saw this theme on Pinterest before he was born and filed the information away for a future date. For this party, we took a departure from the usual giant party and invited just his little group of friends.
I only decorated our little dining room and the food table. We served hot dogs, our favorite Boom Chicka Pop, cookies, raisins, and "Red Lines".  I got most of the concession items (treat cups, popcorn bags, cardboard containers, and plates from a favorite party store- Shop Sweet Lulu. I really love baking and am pretty good at it most of the time, but I can't seem to do cakes well. I decided to order a cake this year instead of attempt one myself and this one was a big winner! It's from a local shop, Susie Cakes and was delicious. That cute star garland is from this adorable Etsy shop and I'm saving it for Hayden's future room or the playroom in New Jersey.

For the car portion of party, I saved amazon boxes for the last couple months and spray painted them cherry red. I bought this decal kit which we printed out on sticker paper and cut out. We gave each family a box and their kit and wouldn't you know, not a single child made their own car?! All the parents assembled the cars while the kids ran around the yard... Oh well!

Knowing our audience (1 - 3 years old) , we decided against showing a feature length film and downloaded Pixar Shorts to show the kids. We kept it on for about 15 - 20 minutes, just until their attention wandered and they had finished their dinner.

Hayden loves the Happy Birthday song and enthusiastically sang along with all of us.

We waited until his friends left before we gave him his big present from Mommy and Daddy- a new scooter. (He has been asking for a red scooter and a blue helmet for a while now). He loved it and promptly rode it around our street with Daddy well past bedtime.
All in all, it was a sweet little party and we hd so much fun celebrating our big 3 year old!
